This thread is for posting any images you find of block-like, rectilinear, or other geometric shapes on Mars.

On the monoliths, this is the explanation from NASA/Hirise:
"'Layering from rock deposition combined with tectonic fractures creates right-angle planes of weakness such that rectangular blocks tend to weather out and separate from the bedrock.'
"The fact it seems to resemble a rectangular monument could be due to simulacra. This is where humans see familar images in random surroundings..."
Simulacra? LOL. Humans see rectangular objects where there are rectangular objects. Now, whether this rectangular object was/is a monument or not, is subject to debate. The location halfway down the canyon wall is not favorable to it being a monument - unless the forces of nature have moved it there from a more realistic position. Still, it's interesting to see.

Tectonic fractures? Is there tectonic activity on Mars?

One interesting thing about Mars that I don't think many people realize is that the ground is frozen, and even the sand dunes are locked into place. A sentient being could do artwork down there and expect it to stay in place for many thousands of years. Only a warming period can change that.

I see 2-3 faces also, and lots of rectilinear stuff. Was this on a crater wall - between Cydonia and Mawrth Vallis?

Of course, if this is the were-jaguar theme going on again, we need to get Zip in on this.

We ought to start a thread with crater wall art. Theerdd's find here reminds me of cave art. :-/ 38°34'2.80"N 18°36'30.58"W A bit of this one now appears on Hirise image: hirise.lpl.arizona.edu/PSP_007902_2190

I thought about one for teamprojects splitted in 2 one section like argumentations/conclusions/resoning in debate and finished. So the first is like an operating round table where thoughts were thrown in to get to an own "fact" and finished then act like a marsanomalies "fact" until ????? ;) what do you think?

Cool idea. We may need more members - and some sharp skeptics who can reason in words and facts. Want to elaborate more on the working details? :-*

This image came off the same NASA image that the "Big Foot" image came off of. Its funny because the big foot thing got the PR and I would not have gave it a second look. No details just a strange shape. This image was much more interesting to me. photojournal.jpl.nasa.gov/jpeg/PIA10216.jpgAttachments:
