Hi,
I don't know whether these reconstructions are convincing for you but in my humble opinion this is the explanation for the Terby anomaly. I want to thank you all for your ideas and opinions. I highly respect all of your suggestions. Because of these ideas I've been thinking again about everything and now there is more than i have expected. At the beginning it was just a pair of geoglyphs and now this:
It took several days before I and my colleagues were able to understand what we have here. This time we have checked the whole geological structure and we have noticed very remarkable things. Actually there is quite a lot, that we have overlooked. Now we have a fairly clear idea of what was originally here and the result of the reconstruction is just amazing.
The trigger was Marsrock's note that the so-called "geoglyphs" are located in a kind of sink. This was somewhat surprising. Usually we expect something like this on a mountain slope or at least on flat ground as we can see in the Peruvian Nazca plain. Despite this, the geoglyphs can still be clearly seen from above. Anyway, why would someone place such images in a sink?
It is understandable that because of these inconsistencies, the geoglyphs have been called into question. A remnant of an artificially cut terrace? An amphitheater? Perhaps, but let's look again at the "geoglyphs".
Do these lines just accidentally create an impression of an animal?
Is that really a presentation of a person standing on an animal?
There is no contingency! Everything has a reason. There is a reason, why the geoglyphs are located in a sink. It was deliberately-planned to place them there. We have to proceed in steps to understand the whole plan.
Reconstruction Step 1:Particularly striking are the bright rock streaks. Some of these streaks are very straight lined. If these are traces of artificial processing then there must be a reason why this was created in that way.
I've been thinking again about the note that the surroundings show indications of terraces and irrigation systems. According to the images from different viewing angles I've got the suspicion, that these bright streaks could represent trenches respectively a canal system.
Based on this assumption, i have created new images from different directions and different angles (like Marsrocks image examples) in order to get an impression of the heights and depths. This is of course a little bit tricky, because it's the attempt to make a pseudo three dimensional view based on a two dimensional image. Therefore we must act here with caution to retrieve the correct results.
However, the results are very revealing. They show that we have not only trenches but also basins. It's real detective work to discover the logic behind this. But now the whole structure suddenly makes sense. There is no other logical reason than
that the trenches are used for the transport of water and the basins are used to store a large amount of water.
We identified three large basins. The "geoglyphs" are in one of these basins. But we'll focus first on another basin and explain its construction. Very conspicuous, are the straight sides of the basin here which show strong indications of artificial processing.
We can see a square within the basin. Narrow shadows indicate that we have here a deepening.
The next picture shows what happens if we fill this square with water.
We now see a triangular ledge. (I don't know if "ledge" is the correct English translation. Please correct me, if this is wrong.) Does this have a special meaning or is this just a random geologic formation? No, of course not. Everything has a reason. The edges of this triangular ledge are clean and straight - Another indication of artificial processing. But why? It's a nice coincidence, because we have something similar here in my hometown. It's place within a small lake with a special kind of viewpoint. If you are standing on the tip of the triangular ledge you get the impression of standing in the water. The same effect here in Terby.
But there is another interesting aspect. Where does the water come from? There is a reason why the ledge is located exactly at this point. If you just look straight ahead from the tip of the ledge, then you're looking up-wards to a mountain slope. Looking to the top of the slope, you can see something what could be a piping construction. Another nice coincidence. If we assume that the water comes down from there, the tip of the triangular ledge would offer you a spectacular viewpoint.
Standing in a small lake and looking to-wards a river running into your direction. The motivation for such a architectural design is now quite clear. Just try to imagine you are standing at this point on Mars.
Reconstruction Step 2:In the immediate neighborhood is a second basin. The outlines of the second basin are not so straight-lined as like the first basin. They look much more natural. Perhaps this one was build earlier.
Here we can locate a trench that would provide the basin with water.
And here is the result of the refilling:
Reconstruction Step 3:Our next step brings us to the third basin. This one has smooth edges and a very interesting structural formation of light lines inside.
If we now fill the basin, the figures would stand under water. Depending on how high the water stands, the figures would probably be seen clearly even under water. But what if the water would not cover the figures.
It is difficult to assess, but there are areas which could indicate that the figures stand higher. Some dark streaks directly along the figures could be explained by narrow shadow. Let's try to fill the basin without covering the figures with water. It's just a little experiment. The results could be revealing.
We're doing this step by step. We start at the feet of the "alleged" animal figure and try gradually to fill the entire basin.
If we go on we'll come to an interesting point.
In our first report on the geoglyphs, we tried to reconstruct the outlines of these figures. We had had difficulties to represent the shape of the human figure. We speculated that the figure was already too much eroded to allow a reconstruction. The attempt to set the water line along the figure showed that the figure was not yet so damaged, as we suspected at first.
The next picture shows that the whole arm of the figure still exists. One can see that the figure's arm hangs down.
We will now continue at the head.
We now see that the water does not completely enclose the head. Was this intended? A contrast-enhanced view of the affected area shows that the whole right side of the basin is apparently broken.
Random Discovery: Did you notice the pyramidal building at the top of the image? :) We highly expected some kind of buildings, in such a large area but we had so far found no indications of buildings. This pyramidal building is of course a direct hit.
Let's focus on the figures again. We've marked in red the traces of debris.
In our opinion, these are the remains of the cliff side respectively of the basin side. There are some fine lines that would allow the following reconstruction line.
It would make sense that the water completely surrounds the figure.
We are now facing the next interesting problem. Where is the other arm of the figure? We see that in the area of the arm is a line in shape of a semicircle. If we set the water line along this line, it became clear, where the arm is.
A reflective line about below the axle, shows us the next clue.
The attempt to surround the figure with water was very revealing. Only by doing this it was possible to reconstruct the whole shape of the figure.
Let's look at the final result. There is still a small deformation around the head, but this may be the result of the demolition of the right basin edge. But for the moment we don't change anything here and leave it like this.
What would you say now, what does it look like?
Actually there are many representations from ancient times, which bear a striking resemblance.
----------------------
The earliest illustrations of dragons we found during our research are over 7000 years old. Originally, dragons are mythical sea creatures. The mythology of dragons was handed over thousands of years to many other cultures. They have adopted the myths with several modifications. The current picture of the dragon is strongly influenced by the movie and computer industry. But the imagination to stand or to ride on dragon, has survived to this day.
----------------------
To give an impression of the special meaning of these figures here just a few examples.
I) A Bodhisattva (enlightened person) standing on a dragon-like creature. // Image from a Buddhist temple
II) The Babylonian god Marduk with his dragon and personal mount Mushussu // Babylonian cylinder seal
III) Nereid sitting on a mythical sea creature. // Roman mosaic
There are three more important reconstruction steps I can still submit but for today it's enough. :)
Nevertheless, please post what you think.
