I started to post this last night, changed my mind, then changed it again today. I've surfed by here a few times but never stopped in for long or posted. Was looking at the releases from the Indian Space Research Organization's Mars Orbiter Spacecraft. In the first pic there's a structure that looks like the glyph for Aries (if you know where to look it's even visible in the original with no zoom). In astrology, Mars is considered the ruler of Aries. My monitor isn't great and I'm not a graphics expert, so I can't be sure if I'm seeing what I think I'm seeing or if image artifacts are complicating a natural formation. Interested in hearing other opinions. Aries is associated with "firsts." I'm tickled by the idea that the first pic from a brand new presence at Mars could have revealed a monument linking Martian history with ours. Even if it's just some distorted weirdness in the landscape, this was a fun find. And I found it the day of the Aries lunar eclipse. ;-) Find the original ISRO image here (hi-res JPEG) at the ISRO image gallery. Size-reduced and marked for context: Cropped, side by side with enhanced version, magnified close-up of "glyph" with some sort of standing rod with a hoop atop above it(?). I don't know what to make of the building or structure to the left of it. And doesn't that weird thing above left look a wee bit like a cannon? Maybe I'm just thinking that cuz I'm liking the Aries/god of war thing... If anyone with graphics skills would care to clean it up for a better look, I'd appreciate it.
