A loaded question Marsrocks, but here's my take. In some preliminary work on this pic, it occurred to me what we may have encountered and be dealing with in these strange pics. In the first place, these are collages or groups of objects, mostly heads, torsos, etc., that then form other pics. You have likely seen such as in pics of Kennedy or Lincoln composed of thousands of various greyscale shots of the same. This I believe is occurring in many of the mars and lunar shots as well. With a light colour and opacity we can run our brush around and .. you know what .. it will form whatever you intend or draw. This so, that the arrangements or ' pic ' is a direct creation of the ' artists ' mind. Would then, this imply an incredible form of art .. say some 10,000 years ahead of us? This would seem possible here, and is quite an amazing thought to consider. I have ' created ' a ' pic ' soley from what I thought was there, or ' I saw' or perceived. Some may be ' there ' .. some, details, may not. On this one I would be interested in what you think .. what do you see?Cheers/M ************ Attachments:

morbius, I agree with your sentiments 100%!
Very interesting take.
And there are MANY more astonishing layers to this little segment of landscape than you have so far revealed!
Is it extremely advanced art? Is it layer upon layer of art - with another layer added by each new generation? Is it art produced by the spirit world? Or is it nothing more than our own minds playing games with us on a bit of a random landform? After all, the origin and inspiration of all true art is nature itself.
After a break from it, look even deeper into this one, and see what else you see. I see some MAJOR elements here that may surprise you.
Others are still welcome to play this one.

" Others ( ? ) are still welcome to play this one "?? Marsrocks .. I know of perhaps half a dozen qualified to play .. and get results .. but they wouldn't touch this one with a ten foot pole .. trust me. So, you're uping the ante or calling me Marsrocks? Looking for someone stupid enough to try .. mabee smart enough to get the job done too? ha, well .. OK .. I'll bite! You make suggestions as to what it is? I might venture a choice, but mabee it represents or composes a little bit of ' all of the above '? I have my perception or views here, and I believe we are on the same page on this .. ditto? Have done a single ( attached ) work-up .. and this is annotated, so should basically speak for itself. Now, after reviewing, what are, in your view, these other ' astonishing layers ' that ' may surprise me '. Marsrocks, now your up to bat .. surprise me. ha. Interesting - you went deeper into the image, and to the edges, to pull out more art. Yet there were more on the face of it, hiding in plain sight in the central image - as if, layered on: You simply have to ignore parts of the image to see what is in the empty spots: I believe you got the main characters: Warrior off to battle (with multiple faces - so he can look in several directions in the story): Possibly, the squire's mother, who doesn't want him to go to battle (this is the female with her back to us - much easier to see in the coloring job you already posted): And the young squire (notice the shield he is carrying): The horse takes up a lot of space in this, and is important to the journey: This sphynx-like creature plays some important central role based on the position it appears: And the hero of the story's face appears (or maybe it is the narrator)- hiding in plain sight in the large empty spot between the squire and the sphynx (We only thought it was empty as we are not used to seeing layered images - though it is similar to an action movie poster): And, as you have seen, there are many more sub characters in this story.

Showing the two poses of the warrior - probably fighting the sphynx: And going off to battle, running toward something - or even running away from the sphynx: Intentional ambiguity allows the viewer to see all of the scenes of the story in a single art piece:

Another sub-character, perhaps, about to strike the squire, but stopped in mid-swing by the warrior: This one is very hard to spot, as the head is angled awkwardly to fit between other images:

This simian-faced sub-character is given three different facings. In two, wearing a crown, and in the third, wearing a pharaoh's head covering: The big one in the upper right - look carefully, and you will see a third eye in the center of its forehead: Perhaps you are the King of the Monkey game if you can unravel the art? ;)

Okay the big simian does have a crown alternative - but it is only a partial crown - as it is cut off by a lock and key with what I called the narrator. Notice the third eye of the simian is also the mouth of the narrator. Also, hidden within the simian's crown at an oblique angle, is another face - maybe an alternative facing for the head of the sphynx:

Here we go. The two facings of the sphynx - profile and portrait:

A suprising ( underline that/ha )presentation .. well thought out and presented Marsrocks .. great work. The Squire with shield, horse, sphinx-like creature, simian and narrator are, as you infer, in the brighter central area which was not pursued as deeply as the general ' story ' was. Your desciptives however clarify this quite well. In percieving, extracting, and processing the arts fuller picture here, it would seem we are at an elementary stage in, or uncovering a new meaning to a lost language of expression, one perhaps well known, understood and commonly used and enjoyed in an early period of our world's history .. but became lost or incomprehensible .. as so many other arts and sciences of long ago? Is ' layered ' then really adequate .. or possibly our present description of a much greater or sophisticated format we are only now becoming aware of to any great degree? You make an interesting comment Marsrocks, that this ' Intentional ambiguity allows the viewer to see all of the scenes of the story in a single art piece.' Methinks it may be even more Marsrocks. Note how one face lets you, or leads/guides you to a certain view or chapter of ' the Story ' in its many ramifications. We might rightfully consider then, that the original format/design parameters were conceived and further developed for far more powerful minds than are present nowadays, and that actually, the intent or purpose of the viewer was paramount to the creation/re-creation devise. That in fact, it would enable or guide you within, and without, limits ..like books, games and movies that let you .. choose the various paths, events .. and ending? Is it possible that, fractal-like, that it(?) actually contains a representation, by tapping into that realm/state, of all people/s and civilizations of all parallel/possible ' historical ' timelines on earth's, and, by extension .. the Universe at large? My considered, albeit casual, view while working on the ' cave art ' ( Marsrocks .. hello?), if it may now be so called, was of a Maya style scene of impending judgement, of the main enemy leader/ the conquered ..before ' the Great Lord'. With the ' heavens ' inhabitants listening, observing and witness as the Villian's followers, the ' shades ', wait in apprehension and fear of the final reason .. and decree. The Hero's Royal Staff is symbol of the connection between his origins, heaven .. and earth, etc. Such types and archtypes in various forms seem inherent in the racial psyche of the human race to be sure, so often and consistently are they seen to manifest. Do you see what I mean Marsrocks ..? Inevitably, the ' program ' is providing our own deepest .. even unconscious wishes, or visions, to be manifested .. and fulfilled. To wit, and as mentioned .. art .. by mere thought .. as if by direct creation of the mind's eye? These ' brain-booster ' multi-dimensional. supposed, art-piece formations, simply amplify the creativity of and fulfill the participant's unconscious reality .. and, in great degree then .. it knows us even moreso than our own selves? This was in fact the main theme of that great sci-fi classic ' Forbidden Planet ', and I think it is a solidly based concept .. and reality. Yes, for it holds true as much, or moreso, for our present day, age, and ' advanced civilization '. Just a few surface thoughts here Marsrocks, hope they don't sound to bazzar .. and .. great to work with you on a peculiarly relevant and, methinks, an outstanding posting. You can see why I think that this sort of thing as "evidence" is particularly weak. It can be subject to interpretation - and there is often little to no geometry that we can find.
That's why I really prefer now to concentrate on categories like geometric forms.
I still find this stuff interesting though, as I can not completely dismiss it as randomly appearing images that I am making sense of with my mind. I try the same things looking at marble - and trying to find images in the marble. I have no problem finding fanciful images in marble - but I have yet to find images in marble that fit lock-in-key - or have multiple faces from profile and portrait - and extremely rarely do any images appear on the same scale or appear to interact.
That said, consider this in another context. Imagine if that was wallpaper in a child's room. A child could lie in bed and look at the wallpaper and imagine any number of things happening. This is not like looking at repeating rose patterns or something of the like. Stories would repeat themselves in the mind of the child - and along with those stories whatever moral that goes along with each story. The wallpaper would teach stories and morals to the children who gazed at the wallpaper.
Let's take this a step further. Parents often tell old stories/ fairy tales to children at bedtime - of all sorts of fanciful things. Books that parents read often contain pictures that become familiar to the children. Now, imagine if all the same characters from each story are grouped together at different points on the wallpaper. This would not take a genius to interpret - only a child who has heard a common story. If the child recognizes one character from the story - their eyes will quickly search for and find the other characters that they know from the story. The actions in the pictures would make perfect sense to them, having already heard the whole story.
Now - one more step. In the pictures - some of the images are in different colors - at different light shades. Those images more lightly shaded would be easier to see as darkness falls. Those things more darkly shaded would appear as light enters the room - whether at morning - or further into the day. Different characters would make their boldest appearances at different times of the day. Eventually a character known to the child, would boldly pop out, and the child would locate and recognize all of the characters, and be reminded of the various parts of the story when gazing in that location.
If there was a single snapshot of each story stored in our mind (and not multiple images)- how would it look if produced as still art? It would be a jumble of all the characters and all the actions- much as we saw in this example. And if you are from Mars - and the story is common - recognizing the art would be simple and not take a genius; and since the art is outdoors in the sun, different characters would pop out more boldly at different times of the day.
Well, those are just a few of my thoughts on this. But I think it explains why I am interested in pursuing this line of thought - even though I think anyone you show this to and tell them you have evidence of artwork on Mars would think you are crazy.
In terms of introducing such things to the public - simpler is better - and collections of geometrically shaped objects that are more likely to occur artificially than geologically - are the baby steps of evidence that people need to see first if we ever want to reach the more unexplained and bizarre things like this.
Thanks for your thoughts!

Some great imagery, analogy and thought Marsrocks. And, I agree, no need to arbitrarily dismiss such material, we have produced some basic work and thoughts on a subject category that we can go back to in the future as an initial reference guide in our findings and speculations. As well. and quite true enough .. as you so aptly summarized " simpler is better ".
The general viewer, even those of some experience .. novice or ' expert ', is more inclined to follow, learn from .. even be intrigued .. by the clearer ' simple ' examples and descriptions as such, and I feel this should be our best choices, for display options always. a good post .. and the feedback is much appreciated too. Thanks for that especially /-M ****************
