I'm still in the beginning stages of exploring this. There are some areas that look consistent with eyes in the appropriate spots. I was never too sure about this in the MOC - but there is a lot of detail available in the hirise images. First the left eye - the left eye of our main character: It appears that it changes with the lighting - which of these you probably see - but there are two prominent marks in the correct spot that can serve artistically as the left eye: Now, the right eye. Remember the right eye has always been ambiguous, as it serves three different faces. The furthest mark to the left is the embedded profile face - the second eye marked is the eye of the main character - and the third eye marked to the right serves as our crazy-eyed secondary character: These are the eyes of the main character and the crazy-eyed second character. Of note, the eye areas are higher albedo than the surrounding rock. Also, there may well be other eye shapes in the same area to serve as eyes depending on perspective or lighting angles available to viewers.

Left eye in focus: The eyeball is pretty stunning - looks like an iris and a pupil:

In this graphic, I'm trying to determine roughly where the right eyeball should be if this was a conventional piece of art - with a clear location for the right eye opposite the left eye: Note there is a darker round disc shaped area there, but it is nowhere near as good as the left eye:

Interesting geometries appear around the left round eye:

Marsrocks.
Great image of the left eye.
BTW, the reason your having trouble finding the right eye, is because the "right eye" is actually another left eye.*

I finally found what I think is the matching eye - an eye of same size and symmetry just slightly lower than where I expected it to be. At first I thought, that possibly the framework or camera angle is obscuring this, but then when I realized the nearby eye of the second character to our right shines (like a crazy-eyed glare) as if it is a white eye, this occurred to me: It is possible the framework has slipped downward a bit, but it is also possible the pupil of this character is intended to be portrayed as bright - white. One eye with a white pupil. www.health.state.mn.us/divs/fh/mch/webcourse/vision/whitepupil.cfmWhite Pupil - A white pupil could be the symptom of various problems including cataracts, retinal blastoma, or other visual diseases. Leukocoria (white pupil) can be evidence of a retinoblastoma.

This animation is based on the result of experimental imaging on both the left and right frames from hirise. The original images were derived by taking the original base images - and leveling equalization in such a way as to make a small oval dark patch in the position of the lips more visible. The result was then overlayed on the original base and the difference was obtained to produce details in the area of the dark patch. The result was then level equalized again to produce greater visibility in the target area. The result is drastically different than the original base image and should not be considered as authoritative, but merely experimental.

Frame 1 and frame 2: Left and right view of derived experimental images from the two hirise images Frame 3 and 4: left and right view of face as perceived from front Frame 5 and 6 left and right view of face as perceived from oblique angle Frame 7 and 8 - left and right view of face as perceived in profile. I'm just blacking out different parts of the same two resulting images (left and right views) all the way through the animation and this shift in perspective is not added but there in the experimental images as seen in frames 1 and 2:

Another alternative image processing approach - yes, it's a horrible image, but again I'm just trying to get the best view of the mouth area. In this one, if you look carefully, there are two alternative mouths for the main face. One mouth is an open mouth showing teeth for what looks like a male figure. This mouth is central to the face. The other mouth is a closed - full lip mouth that looks like the mouth of a female. This mouth is off center on the face - it is off center a little bit to our left. Both mouths fit the profile face that merges with the main face as well - forming two alternative faces for each different mouth. This explains why some people see this and call it the Queen face, while others call it the King face. It is male from one perspective and female from another perspective.
