Hello there! Just wanted to add another insightful view on the object, which has been called the "Metronome". It is a gif-animation file that has been created by morphing processes, showing a calculated movement based on two images of Spirit. It was only an experimental attempt but I think the animation simulates the local site conditions quite realistic. Click here for the animation: www.map-base.info/bucket/spirit/metro_test_1.gif

So this is blender at work?
Very interesting - (not perfect) - but still really nice.

Yes, that's right. Blind spots are problematic areas. During the rotation some distortions can appear in these areas of the animation. Viewing areas come here to the fore, which are not simultaneously present in both "master" images. Photogrammetry could provide here much better possibilities to create a free 3D-model. Animations like the shown example can be created by various Morphing-Tools (e.g. like FotoMorph).
Photogrammetry tools usually can automatically calculate all possible reference points. But with morphing tools it is neccessary to set manually all relevant reference points. Subjective impressions can sometimes influence the result. So it is important proceed systematically. Mistakes in the setting of these points will quickly become noticeable. A clean result shows up in form of a smooth animation.
Blender will be particulary needed in the use of photogrammetry. But I hope that it will also find a use for other nice proceedings.
