Thank you for posting the image with what you call a toolbox. As usual, there are other possible interpretations. That thing looks like a cardboard storage box sold by IKEA. They call it Kassett and Motorp. Not only do the dimensions fit, that small rectangular thing at the small end of this well-weathered thing has an uncanny resemblance to the small metal frames for the name tags found on these boxes.
As I do not assume that other planets are in need of IKEA products (I might be wrong, of course), my question here is the obvious one: where was that image taken?
Flights from McMurdo station to New Zealand are expensive, so scientists would be likely to dump unneeded things before departing. Am I seeing a garbage dump in Antarctica? On the other hand, flying cardboard furniture to Mars might be cheaper than massive wooden stuff.
Some years ago I found a Spirit rover picture with an ACH advanced combat helmet in it. In fact, I found more than one of these. I could give you the link if I look real hard into 4 TB of data. My doubts as to those pictures' provenance began back then.
