These two things have a similar color and shape, and they are side by side. One has a rectangular piece that descends into the ground from it, and it looks a lot like a railroad spike. The second one, we can only see the rounded head, but just underneath it, we see two small rectangular thin pieces tucked under it. This makes me think of some sort of construction fastener, like nails or spikes. Curiosity sol 3, image 95: mars.jpl.nasa.gov/msl-raw-images/msss/00003/mcam/0003ML0000095000E1_DXXX.jpg

WOW...Marsrocks you found the better example that looks like of an unruptured bomblet or wide-area anti-personnel mine

I had totally missed the raised pattern on top of it.
Wow - very close pattern to your comparison.

I agree, cluster bombs, seem to be forbidden for use on Earth but on Mars....huh we dont have any idea about the legal status..

Curiosity sol 604 - these two rounded shapes on top of a rock remind me of the spike shapes I saw earlier (as seen in this thread). Posted here for comparison: mars.jpl.nasa.gov/msl-raw-images/msss/00604/mcam/0604MR0025500300400926E01_DXXX.jpg It's subtle, but there is also a gridded pattern on top of the surface of the rock.

This find from Polluks (also in the mechanical shapes thread) also fits in well in this category - Curiosity sol 342 0342MR1382001000E1_DXXX.jpg
