Polluks, great job yet again pushing the envelope to normalize colors. And that is a neat face in the rock you found! I had to try my hand at matching what you did: Formula: Divide out the sky gray color from each raw image. Convert r7 to rgb 24bit. Pass R1 through green filter onto the R7. Combine. HSL adjust - drop out most of the green, and change the hue of what you leave to blue - turning the rocks to more of a grayish-blue color. HSL again and adjust magenta until it turns to a soil like orange brown. Level equalize = tinker with it to bring up as much detail as possible. Drop gamma. HSL again to adjust brown color. Hard to believe this can even be done with only two filters to work with.

kimmey, I do see a goblin like thing on the car now.
More interesting to me is that you took a photo of your computer screen (and colors are appearing from that black and white image).
There was a guy on youtube who insisted this was the only way to get a decent image of any of the Mars photos - though I never experimented with that.
There is also I think a reference to doing this as a part of a method to improve imagery in one of (imaging scientist) Mark Carlotto's books.
If anyone else experiments with this, please show me what kind of results you get.

That's very interesting Marsrocks. I can't explain why or how I got colour into that photo this was the first image I took and I've tried it again many times and I can't replicate it but I always get the people or aliens standing out. Maybe someone who's an expert with better understanding can figure it out. I have taken them again and again and have lots of photo's on my phone now of the same image.
Every time I look at the picture I see something new for example you can see the legs of the alien creature his feet has three toes there is a child sat in front with a toy car and very strange looking lady with a headdress or the strangest looking ears that I have ever seen. I know the pictures are blurry but I can see all this.
The thing is for me this image makes me want to ask a hundred questions like. Who are these people, where do they come from, where were they going, is the human like figure at the back of the car trying to fix it and what about the alien creature draped over the front of the car was he meant to be there he looks like he's fallen there to me it's all very strange. I suppose I'll never get them answered though and also maybe people can't see what is there if I showed this to my family they would say it was a rock that's all.

One frustrating thing for me is that my youtube videos often get comments about matrixing - indicating that the human mind is hard wired to unravel patterns in order to make sense of chaos, and in so doing it adds details that you perceive only in your mind, though the true details may be in reality blurred and can not be seen. Face patterns and lions are the two most likely things for our minds to see, and we need to be aware of that as we look for patterns on Mars.
Of course I am very aware of that, and don't really like being reminded of it over and over by each person to view one of my videos.
One thing I think that most people don't also realize is that almost everything within our view in the Spirit and Opportunity images is out of focus - and intentionally blurry. The cameras' focal depths are set in such a way that much of what we see is at least slightly blurry. The easiest proof of this is to take a look at the color calibration targets. There are words on those targets - but good luck trying to read them without some strain. The words are out of focus at that location - just as much of the scene is out of focus. Those same calibration targets were photographed here on earth by a different camera - and guess what? - the words are easy to read.
When we look at a great deal of these rover images, we forget about the lack of focus and begin to become familiar seeing scenes of an out of focus world that really can't be shared with others who are unfamiliar with this journey through blurred imagery. Their minds haven't adjusted to that level of blur which has become normal to us.
There are several other things working against us - such as the monocolor tones - often brown or salmon that the images are released in - the equalization which destroys details by moving pixel shades to absolute black or white - and the study of images that were taken through individual color filters - removing the detail of full spectrum light. This is bad enough when you view a thing through a red, blue, or green filter, but often we see these images through the unfamiliar infra red and UV filters which our brains are not wired to understand at all.
So, we really have a number of things working against us in these images. It can be difficult enough when you are studying an image to be cognizant of how much detail is there to see, and how much your mind may be filling in for you, while at the same time your mind has adjusted to blurry images, and if you desire to see any details you fall further victim to this trap.
I do enjoy seeing curios - faces - and interesting patterns in these images, but I have to be realistic in understanding that they are - at least at the moment - not really useful to us as evidence of artificiality, or biology, or anything else.
Curios are something we look at for fun, I think. Harder geometric patterns though are the most useful evidence I think - and can not be as easily dismissed. When we see hard geometric patterns such as straight lines in clouds we can say it is more likely those patterns were artificially created rather than randomly occurring. That doesn't mean I can't enjoy seeing the more exotic curiosities, I just need to keep in mind the many limitations with these images and with my own mind.
So I would say you should definitely not expect the majority of the public (family or otherwise) to see many of the more curious patterns in these images. Just understand that, and don't feel bad about it. Their response is normal based on their experiences, and so are our responses. There really should be more detail in much of the more curious shapes for us to say conclusively what it is, so we may be fooled by our own wishes, just as they may be fooled by the unfamiliar blur to which we have become more accustomed. Keep an open mind to both possibilities, especially on these curios.
Often there is some real detail backing us up, but just as often there is not as much detail in the actual image as what we allow ourselves to perceive - especially when we study a specific target for a long period of time.
Anyway, I can see you are struggling with the same thing I have had to struggle with on every image I have posted. After doing this for awhile now, and learning from my many mistakes, I know that I am often wrong about what I think I see. Even so, what I think is neat - is that if I have been right - even just one time - then Wow!
So don't get too bogged down in what other people can see. Just enjoy it, and take everything with a grain of salt.
