Comparison to a depiction of the Mayan bird god: pottery.about.com/od/glazesurfaces/ig/Mesoamerican-Pottery/Bird-Deity-Censer-Stand.htmThis is the description at about.com: "This ceramic censer stand is created in the style of the Principal Bird Deity, defined as a supernatural creature with a "long-lip" face and a particular type of avian wing having the profile of a serpent head included around the shoulder. This may equate with the god Kukulkna of the Guatemalan Maya, from which this censer stand comes. (The Aztec name for this same god is Quetzalcoatl.) The piece was created between 250 and 450 AD and is currently at the Los Angles County Museum of Art. Its dimensions are 6.25 x 7.25 x 8.75 inches (15.88 x 18.42 x 22.23 cm). Good catch Pollucks ' weird glitch ', didn't even spot that one myself. It appears as you suggest, an Arabic/Egyptian looking person is there. Upon examination however ( attached ), this ( face ) would appear a composite, that is .. composed of three seperate images. This was a tough one, at the limits of resolving, but would you take a look? In description, there is a bearded man on the left facing a woman on the right .. both elaborately dressed. Above, and in the center is a darker figure which composes and completes the pic into an initially singular ' face '.
